Homemade Nut Butters

Writer's picture: Chloe RuffieuxChloe Ruffieux

Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cup raw nut of choice (peanuts, hazelnuts, pecans, walnuts, cashews, macadamia, even sunflower seeds will work!) - also you can use whatever quantity you want to make more or less

  • Salt (optional)

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 400F.

  2. Roast nuts for 8-13 minutes depending on the nut. If you have already roasted nuts, they only need to go in for about 6-8 minutes. I find that hazelnuts need to be roasted for longer than most other nuts (about 13 min), so just keep an eye on them and make sure they don't get too dark!

  3. If you're making hazelnut butter, pour the roasted nuts into a tea towel, while still hot, and rub them so that the skins come off.

  4. Transfer the hot nuts into a food processor (or really good blender) and let it run for a few minutes (if you wanted salted nut butter, add the salt now). Every once in a while, stop it to push anything that got up on the sides down, and let it run again. It may take a few minutes, but if you let it run long enough you will end up with an irresistibly smooth nut butter.

  5. Pour into an airtight container and store in the fridge. Enjoy :)
